Also known as
Patrick Olodoodi Tjungarrayi,
Patrick Tjungurrayi
Artist (Painter)
Patrick began painting in 1986 for Warlayirti Artists in Balgo. Like many Pintupi male artists his work, which depicts the Law of his country, is painted with a profound degree of abstraction. In the 1990s, he moved to Kiwirrkura, and usually paints for Papunya Tula Artists, except when visiting relatives in Balgo.
Born “in the bush” near Jupiter Well c. 1935, Patrick divides his time between Balgo and the Pintupi homelands community of Kiwirrkura to the south. He paints Tingari and Wanayarra (Rainbow Snake) Dreamings around the Jupiter Well area and began painting in 1986. The artist comes from the heart of the Gibson Desert and in the words of former Warlayirti Artists coordinator Michael Rae, “his art displays the profound degree of abstraction typical of that area. The designs are powerfully direct and resonate with the artist’s great understanding of the Law.”
