Peter Weiss immigrated from Vienna in 1939. He got his start in clothing as a hem-baster for Whitby Suits, a brand exclusive to David Jones. He left at the age of 20, and went to work for Tennyson Textiles manufacturing dresses and then began designing the styles himself. In 1983 Weiss won the tender to design the dress for the front-line staff at Westpac Bank. Peter Weiss Designs specialised in uniform design, also creating looks for Ansett Airlines, MBF and Wenona School.
