Warlpiri speaker born in the early 1960’s, Rene Robinson lives in Alice Springs and was one of those instrumental in establishing and consolidating Jukurrpa artists’ co-operative as a serious painting enterprise. From Yuendumu originally, where she started painting in about 1987, in the early years of the Warlukurlangu painting enterprise, Rene has connections in the Willowra community, where she has been spending more time recently. Her paintings depict Bush Banana (Yuparli), Honey Ant, Ngalyipi (Climbing Vine) and Water Snake and Bush Mango Dreamings in a simple bold style. Her entry in the 1987 Alice Springs Art prize was highly commended. She is Eunice Napangati 's sister in law, and the two painters worked together on the Bi-Centennial Authority exhibition painting their designs on furniture for a Commission organised by the Centre for Aboriginal Artists, for whom Rene also paints occasionally. Rene was included in the Tjukurrpa exhibition of the Centre’s artists at the Blaxland Gallery in Sydney in 1988. Her work represented in both public galleries and private collections.
