Born 'in the bush’, probably near the Stansmore Range, in approximately 1932, Rita Kunintjji was a Kukatja speaker who lived at Balgo. Her country was Mangkai in the Stansmore Range, and her main Dreamings were Tingari stories. She also painted women’s stories for the site of Muntjuku, south of Lake Gregory. She had been painting for Warlayirti Artists since 1988. A senior leader of Women’s Law at Balgo, she enjoyed working with other artists, including her husband, the late Albert Nagomara . Her enjoyment of painting is evident in the diversity of styles Kunintji used – yet all exhibit qualities of strength and Law. Her works often create an almost 'mandala’-like effect, with the painting radiating out from a central motif.
