sketcher and bank officer, made a rough pencil sketch of the original homestead at Tombong, NSW (photograph ML), a property managed and subsequently owned by William Whittakers. A note on the back written by A.H. Wright of Tombong in 1929 states that the sketch was drawn by 'young Mr. Wilkinson about the year 1841’ and represents 'the first kind of Pioneers’ homestead in occupation on Southern Monaro before there were any sawyers of timber, makers of bricks, or masons available’. Wilkinson was probably just visiting the Monaro in the 1840s; he spent most of his life with the Bank of New South Wales. An accountant at the Sydney head office in the early 1870s, he was appointed acting manager from August 1875 until 1884, then was sent to WA as manager of the new Perth branch. By 1898 he was back at Sydney, living in the suburb of Kogarah.
