Ross Gardam, designer, was born in 1977. Since graduating in industrial design at Monash University in 1999, Gardam has worked solidly in environmental, interior and product design both in Australia and abroad across a range of design disciplines for a number of large commercial firms.
In 2005 Gardam travelled to London where he established Spaceleft design company, which specialises in the design of products and spaces, valuing technologically advanced materials and processes alongside craft, heritage and hand skills. He returned to Melbourne in 2007 with a commitment to grow and establish the company.
Gardam has developed and exhibited a number of furniture and lighting products over the past five years. Collaborating with local manufacturers and industry specialists, he also has worked with the Australian distributor, Stylecraft, while creating furniture and lighting products under the brand Ross Gardam.
Gardam’s design approach has been shaped over time with earlier works focused on the exploration of material use, the manufacturing process and sustainable design principles. His aim has been to create simple and beautiful design solutions that respond to the positive and negative legacies of his design experience.
