Juluma Rover Thomas, who painted the land and the massacres of people in the Kimberley, first came to prominence as the Dreamer of the Kurirr-Kurirr ceremony, which he subsequently painted. He and Trevor Nickolls were the first Australian Aboriginal artists to represent Australia at the Venice Biennale in 1991.
