Born at Malka, WA south-east of Kiwirrkura, he was the oldest son of Uta Uta Tjangala . He was brought into Haasts Bluff in 1956 as a small boy. After instruction from his father, he painted occasionally for Papunya Tula Artists from the late ’80s. His usual place of residence was Kintore. He was custodian of the site of Ngatjaanga, a rock hole where the Snake Woman depicted in many of his father’s paintings came upon the snake and killed it. Shorty’s work was shown in Friendly Country, Friendly People at the Araluen Art Centre and Tandanya Cultural Institute in 1991.
