painter, established his reputation in Britain yet had Australian connections, notably as a leader of the Royal British Colonial Society of Artists. Like E.A. Hornel and Bernard Hall, Gotch trained at the Antwerp Academy. He did brilliantly in the initial antiek class in winter 1877-78 (60/60), then left.
