Biography <p>painter, studied at the National Gallery Schools in Melbourne. In the late 1880s he was a member of the Heidelberg School. He rented a lodge in the garden of Charterisville in 1890 (see <b>*Leon "Sonny" Pole</b>* ). A large oil on canvas seascape signed 'Tom Humphey' was offered at Christie's <i>_Australian and European Paintings, Drawings and Prints, Part 1</i>_ , Melbourne, 29 April 1997, lot 77. Undated, it was probably painted in the late 1890s, after he had left Charterisville but before tuberculosis confined him to painting smaller, more intimate works.</p> <p></p> <p><b>
