Thomas Peppercorn was a drawing master who became the first teacher in the School of Art and Design at the Prahran Mechanics Institute in 1870.

drawing master, was listed as a professor of drawing at Williams Road, Prahran, in the Melbourne Directory for 1862. In 1870 he became the first teacher in the School of Art and Design at the Prahran Mechanics Institute, later being assisted by Mr McKenzie . In 1873 the school had 50 pupils, but it had closed for lack of students by 1879.
