portrait painter and settler, of Rouse Street, Sandridge (Port Melbourne), exhibited three oil portraits in the 1854 Melbourne Exhibition in preparation for the 1855 Paris Exhibition. No surviving paintings are known and he is remembered primarily as the father of the painter Edward Cairns Officer (1871-1921) who was born when the family were living in Swan Hill, Victoria.
