Tom Sanders worked in many fields of art.
Ceramics: running a studio, decorating for other artists, producing items for painters to decorate, as a production potter and teacher.
He painted, produced murals and designed tapestries.

After he returned from WWII, Tom trained as a sculptor, he did some decorating on pottery for Guy Boyd while they were students and later for David and Hermia Boyd. Almost 20 years later, Tom collaborated with painters Jan Senbergs, John Olsen and Fred Williams on a series of decorative plates.

In 1949 Tom sold ceramic wares through Georges Department Store under the name 'Dorian Sands’ and in 1954 he established a ceramics studio with his wife Elizabeth in Eltham.
