Organised by AGSA and toured to NGV, AGNSW, QAG. Hailed as one of the greatest Australian painters of the late 20th century, Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri was a pioneer of the Western Desert painting movement, which emerged in central Australia in the early 1970s and is now recognised as one of the most powerful developments in Australian art history. This major exhibition charts the artistic shifts that occurred throughout the three decades of Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri’s extraordinary career. Featuring some of his greatest masterpieces, drawn from public and private collections throughout Australia, Europe and the United States, the exhibition pays tribute to the life and work of this important Anmatyerre artist.
