painter and drawing teacher, Tasmania. Tasmanian Art Association, Hobart, 1885: 'Mr W.H. Charpentier has sent three very pretty views, a cottage in North Wales, and views of Mount Wellington by sunlight and moonlight’ ( Mercury , 8 January 1885, p.3). His charming, undated (pre-1884), rather primitive watercolour drawing of the interior of the Launceston Museum is in QVMAG.

Charpentier taught technical drawing to artisans at the Hobart School of Arts, Mechanics Institute, Melville Street, Hobart, in 1885 ( Mercury , 18 July 1885, p.3). In 1886 he was teaching drawing at the North Hobart Collegiate School, Ivy Lodge, Elizabeth Street ( Mercury , 27 January 1886, p.3) and at Scotch College, Hobart ( Mercury , 27 January 1886, p.3); he also conducted the Hobart Technical Art School at the Mechanics Institute in Melville Street ( Mercury , 30 January 1886, p.3). Taught at Mrs Henry Barnard’s Ladies School in 1887 ( Mercury , 14 July 1887, p.1). 'Private classes in drawing at Technical School [due] to commence’ ( Mercury , 19 July 1890, p.3).
