professional photographer, advertised that he was taking daguerreotypes from the rear of the Clarendon Hotel, Adelaide, in 1849, according to Cato, who states that Oglesby was a Londoner who advertised in most of the Australian colonies and remained at the Clarendon for only a month. He is said to have produced the first hand-coloured daguerreotypes in South Australia there. In January 1851 the 'DAGUERREOTYPE PORTRAIT ESTABLISHMENT’ of Mr Oglesby from London was back at Adelaide, in Morphett Street, and Oglesby was advertising that he 'continues taking the above likenesses daily’.
