Spinner and weaver who came from Tasmania. She was a very strong minded person who taught spinning and weaving from around the First World War. During the war, Mrs. Strickland organised the spinning of wool to knit (oiled wool) socks and other clothing for the troops, and set up a war work depot to collect and distribute the garments. Her daughter was the physicist and gold-medal winning Olympic athlete Shirley, later de La Hunty. She was probably the E. Strickland who learnt woodcarving under William Howitt at Perth Technical School in 1904.
