photographer and surveyor, was appointed to George Goyder 's survey party to northern Australia as assistant to the expedition’s photographer, J. Brooks . The party left Adelaide in the Moonta in December 1868 and landed at Port Darwin on 5 February 1869. Brooks and Barlow found themselves too busy with general surveying chores to take many photographs and most of the views of the settlement were taken by Samuel Sweet , captain of the Gulnare , who was at Port Darwin from late March to mid-May and from 24 August to 28 September 1869. Returning on board the Gulnare , Barlow reached Adelaide on 15 October 1869.
