professional photographer, worked in small towns around Maryborough, Victoria, in the late 1860s and 1870s. He arrived at Avoca on 12 February 1867 and advertised in the Avoca Mail on 23 February, stating: 'Portraits! For One week only W. Hardagen, Photographic artist, High Street Avoca, is prepared to take portraits on paper, iron, leather and glass in the highest style of photographic art’. In 1867 Hardagen was at Majorca (Victoria). He also worked at nearby Talbot. Twice during 1870 the Avoca Mail reported his arrival and continued presence in that district.
