Walter Godden was a draughtsman, mining surveyor and sketcher. He was employed by the Department of Public Works in Perth in 1895. In 1897 he was working as draughtsman in Coolgardie. In 1899 he was living in Kalgoorlie and working as a mining surveyor, and he remained there at least until 1903. His sketches are in the collection of the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
