painter, working 1880s. Employed in the NSW Lands Department, Fivedock. Exhibited in the [Royal] Art Society of NSW in 1889. Exhibited in Art Society of NSW autumn exhibition of watercolours and black-and-white drawings in 1889 ( Sydney Morning Herald 1 April 1889, 4),

Commended in the Art Gallery of New South Wales student competition in 1892 for a seascape in watercolour ( Daily Telegraph , 11 January 1892). “Best Sea or Landscape done in the open air, in oil or water-colour … commended, William Bowry … William Bowry’s river view is an honest attempt to face the hard grey tones of our landscape in certain lights, whilst the foreground of his harbour view shows feeling. The third of his 'commended’ drawings falls short of the other two” ( Sydney Morning Herald , 7 January 1892, p.6).

Re the Art Society Sketch Club: “The Result of the judging of sketches was … Mr Bowry, third” ( Sydney Morning Herald , 12 July 1897, 3).
