travelling photographer, was working at Tumut in 1864, at Boorowa in 1866 (apparently misreported as 'W. Tearne’ ), at Yass in 1868 and at Gundagai in 1872. That Fearne regularly included Wagga Wagga on this southern New South Wales circuit is evidenced by his advertisement in the Wagga Wagga Advertiser that he was 're-opening his portrait gallery in Fitzmaurice Street’ on 21 December 1868 and by a report that he had 're-opened his photographic gallery for the season at Newtown [Wagga Wagga]’ in January 1870. The Advertiser reminded its readers that 'few inland towns in the colony are long or often favoured with the visits of professors of Mr. Fearne’s ability; and when he retires again, another opportunity of obtaining a really artistic portrait may not occur here for several months. He does not confine his efforts to cartes de visite and the like, but takes portraits on a much larger scale, landscapes, buildings &c.’. Fearne was again at Wagga Wagga in 1889-90, this time in Bridge Road. He was at Jerilderie in 1892.
