Engraver, was the only son of Samuel Calvert (21 November 1828 -1 January 1913) and his wife, Emma née Lake. Born in Collingwood on 8 February 1861 and raised in Melbourne, he was a student at National Gallery of Victoria’s Design School in 1882 and joined his father’s engraving business in Little Collins Street (c.1886). He took over the engraving side of the business while Samuel worked as the artist of the firm. When his father returned to England (c. 1888), William remained in Melbourne and continued the business. On 30 March 1892 he married Henrietta Cohn (15 May 1867 – 25 April 1924). The couple had two children: a daughter Eileen Rosa (18 February 1893 – 15 May 1968) and a son Leonard Edward (19 December 1896 – 17 December 1967). William Samuel Calvert died at Camberwell, Victoria on 3 March 1923.
