Aunty Zelda Couzens, Kirrae Wurrong/Gunditjmara basket-weaver, was raised on the Framlingham Mission near Warrnambool, on Victoria’s coast. Zelda was taught to weave baskets by her great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and father, and passed on these weaving techniques to her daughter, artist Bronwyn Razem . She participated in a number of exhibitions, including “Dreamweaver”, at the Linden Art Centre, Melbourne (2001) and “Tribal Expressions” at the Arts Centre, Melbourne (2006), and her work was included in the “Ngathook mangnoorroo watanoo: I come from” exhibition at the Bunjilaka Gallery, Melbourne Museum (2008). Aunty Zelda Couzens passed away in 2007.
