Biography

Russell Milledge has been a contemporary arts catalyst working collaboratively with some of Australia’s leading practitioners in the fields of visual arts, dance, live art, intermedia and intercultural forms. He has been engaged almost exclusively in engineering partnerships, interdisciplinary collaborations and intercultural exchange since the 1980's. With a contribution to many seminal site-specific and media based projects and partnerships recognised within the context of Australian Art. Milledge is a founder and co-director of Bonemap, a founder and company director of KickArts Contemporary Arts Ltd, a founder and stakeholder of Move Dance TNQ and a founder and previous co-director of OnEdge media and performance festival. He is a Course Coordinator and curriculum developer for the School of Creative Arts, JCU. Milledge is represented in collections including Queensland Art Gallery, Cairns Regional Gallery, KickArts Contemporary Arts Ltd and Cairns Convention Centre. He implemented and curated the intercultural project Linkage Leakage in the early Nineties preceding the Queensland Art Gallery's Asia Pacific Triennial and including artists from Indonesia, Thailand, Melanesia, Torres Strait and Aboriginal representation. Milledge has curated numerous exhibitions and published research on contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. This includes survey and celebratory exhibitions for NAIDOC, Gab Titui Cultural Centre (Torres Strait), Wet Tropics Management Authority (World Heritage Area) and individual artists who have been based in far north eastern Australia. He continues a partnership with the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair and was the CIAF Symposium Convener 2009, 2010 and Master of Ceremonies 2011 and 2012.

Specialties:Through Bonemap, he has gained leading expertise in immersive theatre at the intersection of live performance, media arts and audience participation. Milledge has been co-director and technical director for all Bonemap productions since 1998 including tours to Singapore, United Kingdom and Japan presenting in major theatres, art galleries and alternative spaces.
