Blanche Tilden is a jeweller based in Melbourne. She studied gold and silversmithing and glass at the School of Art, Australian National University. Tilden’s early practice benefited greatly from a mentorship with jeweller Susan Cohn. In 2005, fellow ANU graduate Phoebe Porter was awarded an Australia Council grant to be mentored by Tilden for three months. The degree of affinity between their practice, interests and ambitions was such that they established a collaborative jewellery venture that year, called Studio Hacienda. Tilden has a particular interest in the means of mass production established during the industrial age, and manufacturing technologies, and these sources of inspiration are very evident in the Studio Hacienda aesthetic.
