Wood is an industrial designer, the managing director Nielsen Design Associates. Working with Louis Challis, designers from Nielsen Design Associates and others, he was a key team member in the development of the NSW Dept of Main Roads' PB/5 pedestrian button, a “Audio-Tactile Pedestrian Detector” (ATPD). This device was developed in the 1970s and remains in use.
