Ivan McMeekin b. 13 September 1919

Ivan McMeekin was the founder of the Sturt Pottery at Mittagong and one of the founders of the Potters Society of Australia. From 1959-78, he taught at the University of NSW, where he was instrumental in introducing pottery to Aboriginal people in the Northern Territory. His book 'Notes for potters in Australia : raw materials and clay bodies' is still the most exhaustive work on the subject.
