Jeff Mincham (1951-) was born at Milang, SA. He trained as an art teacher, obtained an Advanced Diploma of Art Teaching from the South Australian School of Art. And did postgraduate studies at the Tasmanian School of Art, before becoming a full time potter in 1976, based at Cherryville, SA. He was creative director of the Jam Factory from 1979 – 1982, then returned to his Cherryville Studio to explore his interest in raku. He has held numerous solo and group exhibitions, won a number of awards and is represented in major collections in Australia and overseas. In 2009 he was nominated a master of his craft as part of the Living Treasures series. He works mainly in handbuilt earthenware. Most pieces are multi-fired with successive layers of glaze and other surface treatments. Landscape is a major source of inspiration. Recent work uses a range of unusual techniques and processes. He signs his work with an incised M in a loosely-drawn circle, or his full surname.
