watercolourist, was the elder sister of Helen Maxwell Crear . Pages from her Australian Scrap Book (National Library of Australia) depict landscapes in Tasmania, such as The Derwent from Bishopstowe and Ben Lomond near South Esk at Clynevale . Anne Maria Nixon , wife of the Anglican Bishop of Tasmania, contributed a landscape to Johannah’s collection and was apparently a friend. A set of five watercolours of Tasmanian scenery by Miss Crear shown at the 1865 Launceston Exhibition of Paintings by Professor Irving of Melbourne was stated by the Launceston Examiner to be 'among the most admired’ exhibits. Two Tasmanian landscapes were exhibited in the 1869 Melbourne Public Library Exhibition: Hobarton, from Valley of the Waterworks and Mount Wellington, New Town Bay .

Johannah Crear died at Clynevale on 10 December 1884, aged sixty, and was buried in the churchyard of Kirklands Chapel, near Campbell Town. Many years earlier, she made a watercolour of this family church.
