Caldwell is an explorer of the Australian Landscape with brush, paint and paper. Constantly revisiting the source, seeking to render the individual & ultimate essence of colour & light that is completely identifiable with the bush & outback of Australia.

Major touring solo exhibitions have resulted from time spent in Antarctica, the Ipswich coalfields and the granite country of northern New South Wales. John Caldwell’s paintings, drawings and printmaking also encompass portraiture, figurative and still life subjects.

A lyrical, colourful exhibition of paintings based on working trips along the length of the Murray River from the headwaters in Kosciusko, through river gum country below Lake Hume, to the steep river cliffs in South Australia on a paddle wheeler and the broad waters of the river mouth.
