Dr Keely Macarow has worked as a producer, writer, artist and curator for exhibition, film, video, performance, screening and writing projects in Australia, England, the US and Europe. Keely is currently a Chief Investigator forDesigning Sound for Health and Wellbeing, an interdisciplinary project which is currently being conducted by researchers from the School of Art and St Vincent’s Hospital – Melbourne to provide a new perspective on the effect of sound and music on the health and the wellbeing of Emergency Department patients.
Keely completed her PhD in 2006 at the University of Melbourne, where she explored the lived experience of people affected by HIV/AIDS and cancer in film, video and photographic works produced during 1961 – 2004 by artists and activists from the US, South Africa, England, Canada, France and Australia.
From 2005-2007 she was producer of Northern Void (with Philip Brophy and Philip Samartzis), which premiered at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in February 2007. In 2003 Keely was visiting artist at the School of Art Institute of Chicago. Keely’s video work has been presented in Australia, the UK and Europe and is represented in collections of The Lux (UK), the Institute of Contemporary Art, (London), the British Council and the Modern Image Makers Association (now Experimenta).
