Nora Heysen b. 1911

  • Artist
The daughter of painter Hans Heysen, Nora Heysen was highly regarded as an artist in her own right. In 1938 she became the first woman to win the prestigious Archibald Prize and in 1943 achieved another 'first' - becoming the first woman to be appointed an official war artist, a position that saw her posted to New Guinea from 1943-1946.
