cartoonist, signed his work with the monogram 'A’ over 'J’. In the 1860s-70s he redrew cartoons from London Punch for the Illustrated Sydney News, e.g. Taking “Edinburgh” by storm; or the Prince cannonaded by photographers and “Who shall be fairest?” or, the Prince and his partners', published Illustrated Sydney News (from Punch) 16 October 1867, 254. Another, The Modern Jack the Giant Killer, was published in the Illustrated Sydney News (from Punch) on 16 May 1876, 174. Since 'JA’ or 'AJ’ illustrated 'The surrender of the bushrangers Clarke to Wright’s party of police’, Illustrated Sydney News 16 May 1867, 164; he was presumably a local artist.
