Alex Jelinek was a Czech-born architect and designer best known for the Benjamin House in Canberra, considered a significant contribution to experimental modernism in Australia. Built in 1957 and photographed by Wolfgang Sievers, it was awarded “House of the Year” in 1958 by Architecture and Arts. It is protected under the ACT Heritage Register. In 1961 Jelinek built a steel roadhouse at Peregian (Qld) (demolished 2003).
