Alex Leckie studied at the Glasgow School of Art, arriving in Australia 1955. He was in South Australia in 1956, throwing terra cotta pots for Magill Pottery, later teaching and establishing his own pottery. He returned to Scotland in 1966.
1978, 1979 & 1982 – Alex Leckie was invited by Prof Noel Flood to spend a year or so on two occasions as Artist in Residence at Melbourne State College – Ceramics and Sculpture Department, on the corner of Grattan Street, Carlton. (MSC)
Leckie exhibited at the MSC Gryphon Gallery June 4 – 15 1979, ceramics from this time were acquired by the Melbourne State College Art Collection.
The collection is in the care of Uni of Melbourne after the amalgamation.
“... They were good students, good individuals. Every body got together and built raku kilns and catenary arch kilns in the adjacent courtyard. Alex Leckie was Artist in Residence and cooked up pigs, fish and lamb in the kilns and a good time was had by all. Golden ale from Naughtons across the road.”
