Halvorsen, son of a Norwegian boat-builder, designed and built motor yachts from shipyard in Neutral Bay, later Ryde, then Bobbin Head NSW. While the company's timber motor yachts were sold internationally, he and his company also designed and built sailing vessels. He was also a celebrated sailing competitor.
