Roberts was a calligrapher teaching at the Sydney Technical College/National Art School beginning the mid-1930s. He also worked for the studio of Smith and Julius, Sydney prior to the teaching appointment and undertook other commercial work on commission for publications such as The Bulletin. A number of illuminations by Roberts are also recorded.
