A review article in the Sydney Morning Herald in 1936 states that The Women’s Industrial Arts Society evolved from the Women’s Painters Society, formed by Miss Lillian Chauvel with Lady Chelmsford 28 years ago. The Society is described as having 100 members and rooms in the Victoria Arcade, Sydney. That is, formed in 1908. Ref. “Art in the Home.” Sydney Morning Herald, Thursday 7 May 1936, page 22
