An exhibition of three generations of studio ceramics in Australia, from the 1960s when potters were influenced by Bernard Leach’s understanding of Japanese aesthetics, to a more liberated creative approach.
It was drawn in its entirety from the collection of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences.
The Stone Room was conceived by Martin Sharp at the Yellow House, but worked on by a number of artists, including Peter Kingston who was responsible for its distinctive stumbled appearance. Both Brett Whiteley and Martin Sharp worked on the wave, but Sharp’s vision prevailed.
Joyce Gittoes was asked by her son, George, to make the distinctive stoneware objects on the table.
First public appearance of Vag Dens, by Vivienne Binns (Invitation Section, catalogue number 3).
