Marie Tuck was a South Australian and West Australian painter and printmaker. Heavily influenced by French culture and painting, it took Tuck 10 years to save the money to travel to France where she took lessons from the Paris-based Australian painter Rupert Bunny, cleaning his studio as payment. It was only the outbreak of WW1 that brought Tuck reluctantly back to Australia.

Description

The Fairview Private Art Collection is housed in a historic Queen Anne Federation villa located within Subiaco’s historic Chester’s estate and built in 1915 for John Kennedy, a Scottish Ice Engineer who ran the Perth Ice Works. The collection has a focus on South Australian and West Australian artists from the 1850s to present day. A 48-page illustrated catalogue was published.

Exhibition showcasing highlights from the Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art (CCWA), which was gifted to the University of Western Australia in 2007. A companion publication titled 'Into the Light’ that documented the history and key works of the CCWA was released to coincide with the exhibition, which also featured a symposium – 'Are we there yet?’ – discussing women’s participation in art and art history and the future of feminism in the arts.
