Patrick Milligan b. 1 January 1925

Milligan was an illustrator for the Fairfax press in Sydney and a painter. He trained at Goldsmiths, University of London after the 1939-45 war. Arriving in Australia in 1951, he worked as a glassware engraver (probably for AGM), then worked for Fairfax. He painted abstracts, took portrait commissions and illustrated books for his brother Spike Milligan.

    Description

    The Art Gallery of New South Wales began in the 1870s as an aspect of the Academy of Art. Later it became known as the National Art Gallery of NSW. This name persisted beyond Federation in 1901. It was given its present name in 1958.
    It remains the principal collecting and exhibiting body in NSW and is governed by the Art Gallery of New South Wales Act of 1980.
