Richard Thomas Baker was one of the early supporters of the waratah as the national flower of Australia and to that end in 1915 he wrote 'Australian Flora in Applied Art: The Waratah'.

Art master, Newington College to 1888; assistant curator of Botany, Sydney Technical Museum 1888-98; curator and Government Economic Botanist 1898-1921.
