Bob Woodward enjoyed an international reputation as a designer of fountains. His first major fountain was designed for a 1959 competition for Kings Cross, Sydney. Amongst his many works are the High Court, Canberra, ACT (1980); the Lyric Theatre, Brisbane, (1984); Parliament House, Canberra, (1988) and Darling Harbour, Sydney (1988).

Trained as an architect (Sydney University, 1952), Woodward enjoys an international reputation as a designer of fountains. Initially schooled in the technical school system, he completed university after war service. He then moved to Helsinki, Finland where he worked with Alvar Aalto (1898-1976). He returned to Australia after 1954. His first major fountain was designed for a 1959 competition for Kings Cross, Sydney to commemorate the El Alamein action of the 1939-45 war. It was constructed during 1960-61. Amongst his many works are the High Court, Canberra, ACT (1980); the Lyric Theatre, Brisbane, (1984); Parliament House, Canberra, (1988) and Darling Harbour, Sydney (1988). His large scale work is characterised by meticulous attention to the minute effects of the movement of light and water. While his earliest work is characterised by technical brilliance (Kings Cross), mid-career training in landscape architecture produced more physically integrative projects (High Court, Canberra, Darling Harbour).
