As an artist and commercial diver, Dr. Sarah Jane Pell consults, produces and performs underwater media and designs interdisciplinary sci-art laboratories as new forms of live art and civilian space analogues.
Recent significant career highlight: in April 2016, Dr. Pell successfully completed Polar Suborbital Science Upper Mesosphere [PoSSUM] training at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for the NASA Space Technology Mission Directorate’s Flight experiment 46-S Noctilucent Cloud Tomography Experiment due for flight in July 2018.
As the first artist to qualify as an Astronaut, she was honoured with the title "PoSSUM Artist-Astronaut Candidate" rather than the historic moniker "PoSSUM Scientist-Astronaut Candidate. This is a significant pioneering step towards the first artist in space. -

Pell never accepted, nor attended the Arctic Circle Expeditionary Residency.
She did, however, receive the award of TED Fellow in 2010. At the time of writing, she was the only Australian awardee. -
