Turner was a textile designer working from 191 Queen Street, Melbourne. " In 1939, registered as V.J. Turner P/L formerly trading as R.M. and Vida J. Turner. A 1940 report states she began the business at 19 years of age and by 1940 employed 35 women in Melbourne with a branch in Sydney. Amongst her employees was the fashion historian in the making, Marion Fletcher, later a curator at the National Gallery of Victoria
