BIOGRAPHY: Angela Johnson (nee Brewer)
Birth 1977 Auckland New Zealand
Auckland artist Angela Johnson painted under her maiden name, Angela Brewer, until 2006. Born in New Zealand her family is of British decent.
Painting since a young child and continued her art throughout her entire schooling years. After achieving her Bursary in Art through Rangitoto College, Angela continued to paint and develop her style from within herself developing her own unique style as a professional artist.
Her love of three-dimensional work includes both impressionism and realism. Her use of colour captures energy and ‘Movement’ is a key element in her works.
Moving the observer - emotionally, physically, suggestively, or spiritually.
Angela launched her own first solo exhibition at Auckland’s Bruce Mason Theatre on February 22nd,2000 Auckland featuring a series of large artworks called SKY Rise Art. (Inspired from her early Childhood)
In early 2001 she composed the 2nd painting in 100 years to be painted on site from Downtown Auckland over 9 months before heading to London to paint.
A recent art series created in 2017 – 2022 (The animals) were made into cards to help raise money for pain relief for stray and injured animals.
Her public murals include 'Santorini ' painted in 2020 located in Browns Bay and 'A Tui for Tui Street” composed in 2022 on Waiheke Island.
In the 2022 Covid-19 lockdown she discovered that she was related to well renowned North Carolina artist and teacher Elizabeth Augusta Chant, who’s family were the first New Yeovil settlers in Hawley, Minnesota 1873.
Angela currently resides and works in Auckland, New Zealand
