Joyce Brown

Brown was an interior designer, manager of the "Contemporary Shop", Anthony Hordern Dept Store, Sydney. By 1960, Hordern had established an in-store "Design Centre" selling Fler and Grant Featherston furniture. Brown was also a broadcaster on design on 2BL ABC Radio and winner of 1952 Good Design Award for furniture design from Society of Interior Designers of Australia. She studied at the Sydney Technical College.

Miss Brown, having completed her schooling at the Forbes Intermediate High School, accepted a position with Anthony Horderns Ltd., of Sydney, where she achieved outstanding success as an interior decorator. So much so that when production was commenced on [the feature film] “Smithy”, she was borrowed by Columbia Pictures to design and personally supervise the interior settings for the picture.
