David Carson is a 3D video artist based in Fremantle, Western Australia. He has collaborated with Brian McClave (3D video artist) and George Millward (atmospheric physicist and experimental electronic musician), both based in the UK, on several 3D video installations. The first of these, titled 'Geo-derma’, was completed in 1998. Following its premier at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts during the 1998 Festival of Perth, 'Geo-derma’ toured widely, including to the Museum of the Future in Loughborough, UK. Another collaborative 3D video installation project, 'Skylab’, was completed in 2002 and shown at the 'Immersion’ exhibition during the 2002 Biennale of Electronic Arts Perth. Between 2003 and 2007 Carson collaborated with McClave, Millward and Thomas Ulich, geophysicist at the Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory in Finland, on the project 'paintedSKY’. This work comprised a 3D film projection of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) that had been created by synthesising video recordings of the Aurora that had been made from different vantage points. 'PaintedSKY’ was exhibited at Horizon – the Planetarium at Scitech during the 2007 Biennale of Electronic Arts Perth (BEAP).
