Sculptor and installation artist, Janet Laurence is probably best known for her site-specific architectural collaborations including 'Edge of the Trees' with Fiona Foley for the Museum of Sydney and the Australian War Memorial for London's Hyde Park. A former trustee of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, in 2006 Laurence was awarded a Churchill Fellowship and in 2008 was undertaking a PhD in Architecture at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology.
Know My Name is an exhibition in two parts at the National Gallery of Australia. It is the largest and most comprehensive exhibition of work by women, presented in a thematic rather than chronological form. It reveals relationships between the present and the past, relationships between artists, and common concerns.
Commissioned by the University of South Australia Art Museum to each create a new, major work. The exhibition is an independent initiative of the Art Museum, funded by the University. Embraced by the Adelaide Festival as a partnership.
